Potassium Iodide In Large Quantities
Potassium Iodide, the one prophylactic chemical every disaster conscious person should have in their arsenal in case of a nuclear disaster. Often mistaken as an “anti-radiation pill,” potassium iodide is taken prior to exposure to flood your thyroid with good iodine which in turn blocks the uptake of radioactive iodine. Standard warning, DO NOT confuse potassium iodide with iodine in tincture or other medical forms. These forms of iodine are poisonous! Many sources of potassium iodide tablets can be found online or in survival catalogs. My favorite source is KI4U. But what if you need a lot of it? You have a large family, a factory full of workers or perhaps you work for local emergency management and need a cheap way to protect a lot of people

Tiny Houses
Well I’ve been out surfing weird shit on the internet again and came across a rather fascinating concept: Tiny Houses. Tiny Houses are kind of like crossing an RV with a tool shed. Too small to be legally occupied if they were on a permanent foundation, they’re typically built on an 8’x12′ flatbed trailer. You know, the kind normally used by your local landscapers. They’re built from wood framing, just like a traditional house, but typically have around 65-130 square feet of living space. Now, I know what you’re thinking… How the hell does one fit all the features of a normal house into that small of a footprint? Well, this house is not exactly meant for people who likes to collect a bunch of stuff. If you

Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR)
Doing some web surfing on alternative energy projects I stumbled upon a few YouTube videos comparing nuclear power to things like solar and hydroelectric power. In the comments of these videos I kept seeing mentions of thorium reactors and how much safer they are than the plants currently in use. I didn’t think much about it at the time, I’m already of the opinion that nuclear power is the way to go. In my boredom today I decided to take a closer look and see what all the buzz is about. As I write this, I find myself excited and pissed at the same time. Excited because there’s a new kind of nuclear reactor that’s inherently safe, can’t melt down, doesn’t require active cooling systems, uses less material,
I Told You So…
Ahh yes, the words no one likes to hear… “I told you so.” And yet as smug as they sound, the person saying them never really wanted to have to say them in the first place. For years I’ve preached the need for people to prepare for nuclear disasters. Everything from nuclear power plant accidents to terrorism to all out warfare. We live in the nuclear age, nothing will ever change that. Yet mention preparedness measures to someone and they think you’re nuts. Until of course something DOES happen. The disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, damaged by the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami, has created a run on potassium iodide (KI) supplies all over the world. This morning, KI4U.com had to stop
Japan’s Nuclear Disaster
When the Chernobyl nuclear power station melted down, the people of Europe remained unaware of the danger for far too long. As a result many people have died due to thyroid and other cancers simply because no one bothered to instruct them in basic radiological safety procedures. Now that the Fukushima Daiichi plant has started to burn, we are rapidly progressing towards a Chernobyl style disaster. Here is how the public needs to respond to protect themselves. Treat this as a radioactive fallout type of situation. Anyone down wind of this plant needs to begin taking potassium iodide pills immediately to protect their thyroid. KI floods the thyroid with iodine to prevent the absorption of the radioactive iodine (I131). Continue taking KI for two weeks after the fires

Why There Are No Jobs
John Smith started the day early, having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG), and put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA), he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO), to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA), he got in his car (MADE IN JAPAN), filled it with GAS (from SAUDIA ARABIA) to continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet

Free Cell Phone Service On Android Over WIFI
Free cell phone service. Now there’s a statement that will pique anyone’s curiosity. But if you have an Android phone that can use WIFI connections, whether currently active or not, you can make and receive free phone calls and text messages. The first thing you’re going to need is a Google Voice account. Google Voice gives you a phone number that can be forwarded to one or many different phones. If the phone you’re forwarding to can handle text messages, you can forward those to it as well. If it’s a smartphone, like an Android, you can also install the Google Voice app, which can replace your voice mail, send and receive texts and so on. This is half of what you will need to get free cell phone

What do the Sirens Mean?
Tornado sirens, civil defense sirens, outdoor warning sirens, call them what you will. What to the sirens mean when they sound? What’s going on? What should I do when I hear them? Editor’s Note: If you’re reading this while hearing an Outdoor Warning Siren going off… STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND SEEK SHELTER RIGHT NOW! Your life is in danger! I’ve lived all over the country in my lifetime. I’ve lived in many different states and cities. I have yet to come across a single city that goes out of its way to inform its citizens of how to respond to outdoor warning sirens. It’s also quite rare for a city to operate them properly. You see, the original purpose of an outdoor warning siren was to warn

Re: ‘UNSURVIVABLE!’ New tornado warnings aim to scare
The National Weather Service seems to believe there is a way to fix stupid. According to this article by the AP: In a test that starts Monday, five weather service offices in Kansas and Missouri will use words such as “mass devastation,” ”unsurvivable” and “catastrophic” in a new kind of warning that’s based on the severity of a storm’s expected impact. The goal is to more effectively communicate the dangers of an approaching storm so people understand the risks they’re about to face. The problem is, not every tornado warned storm actually produces a tornado. In fact, the majority of warned storms do not. This causes the stupid in our society to become complacent and simply ignore the warnings. “We’d like to think that as soon as we say

Storm Chasers as Rockettes
I’m watching the weather today since severe storms are in the forecast. TornadoVideos.Net’s Dominator is currently in Fort Worth, getting into position as are quite a few other storm chasers. I got a good laugh looking at imap.tv, seeing the storm chasers all lined up along I-35 like Rockettes!

One More Bad Bomb Shelter
One of the things that annoys me the most in this world is the general population’s lack of knowledge when it comes to bomb shelters, fallout and radiation. For the most part, people don’t even want to know about. It scares them. Most people take the view of the ignorant woman from The Atomic Cafe who said: “I wouldn’t worry near as much about the atom bomb if it were to kill you right out. What scares me is that awful gas that deforms ya.” This statement makes me laugh uncontrollably every time I hear it. But then, I know better. Unlike the bulk of my fellow citizens, I know radiation is not some spooky gas. I know the different forms of radiation. I know the radiation types

Tiny Prefab Free Plans
Michael Janzen at Tiny House Design re-released his free Tiny Prefab plans in the wake of the recent tornado outbreak. Here’s what he had to say along with the link to download the plans… The storms raging across the eastern United States are a terrible reminder of nature’s power – and how our homes are not always up to the task of shielding us to the level we need. I imagine most folks are busy preparing for storms to hit while some are already working hard to pick up the pieces. Hang in there folks. Our prayers are with you. Back in 2009 I drew up a set of free plans for a do-it-yourself prefab shelter. The plans can help you build structures that measure 8×8, 8×12, 8×16, 8×20, etc.
