Free cell phone service. Now there’s a statement that will pique anyone’s curiosity. But if you have an Android phone that can use WIFI connections, whether currently active or not, you can make and receive free phone calls and text messages. The first thing you’re going to need is a Google Voice account. Google Voice gives you a phone number that can be forwarded to one or many different phones. The National Weather Service seems to believe there is a way to fix stupid. According to this article by the AP: In a test that starts Monday, five weather service offices in Kansas and Missouri will use words such as “mass devastation,” ”unsurvivable” and “catastrophic” in a new kind of warning that’s based on the severity of a storm’s expected impact. The goal is to more effectively communicate the dangers of an approaching storm so people understand the risks they’re about to face. I’m watching the weather today since severe storms are in the forecast. TornadoVideos.Net’s Dominator is currently in Fort Worth, getting into position as are quite a few other storm chasers. I got a good laugh looking at imap.tv, seeing the storm chasers all lined up along I-35 like Rockettes!

Michael Janzen at Tiny House Design re-released his free Tiny Prefab plans in the wake of the recent tornado outbreak. It’s been a while since I’ve posted on my adventures in Free Cell Phone Service. Some things have changed recently, so I thought I should post an update. For some time I have been relying on a combination of Google Voice and Spare Phone over a WIFI connection to make and receive phone calls. Unfortunately, the author of Spare Phone has updated the app, rendering it completely useless if you install the update. Until now, I’ve been using an older version, not allowing it to update, which has been working. Google has recently integrated Google Voice into Google Hangouts. As I’ve written before, I believe Thorium (specifically the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor) is the future of energy production. After shuttering the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station this past June, the state of California delivered an extra 18 million tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, in addition to the loss of 1,500 jobs and $50 million in revenue. It’s been 6 months since I made the switch to free WIFI cell phone service using my Android phone. As I’ve mentioned in my previous article, I use a combination of Google Voice and Spare Phone to grant me free cell phone service. I thought since my previous article got so much attention, I would update everyone on what it’s like living with free cell phone service. For one thing, I do not in any way miss spending nearly $100 a month to Sprint for the privilege of using their network. I was never much of a fan of talking or texting while driving anyway.
